Call for more flexible work in Scotland

When people are able to happily combine home and work life they are much more likely to be engaged, motivated and productive at work – giving it their all.

A report by recruitment agency Timewise has called for Scottish employers to offer more flexible working opportunities.  Their data, based on an analysis of 230,000 job adverts, showed that while 34% of jobseekers were looking for flexible roles, only 11.9% of jobs are advertised as flexible.

The Scottish  government have launched a £10m flexible workforce development fund that will allow employers to apply for up to £10,000 each to deliver in-work training.

The BBC quotes Scottish Employability and Skills Minister Jamie Hepburn. “This unique pilot scheme will enable Scotland’s employers to make training and skills development available to their staff, addressing knowledge gaps and improving productivity.”

Commissioned by the Scottish Government and  Family Friendly Working Scotland, it is the first research to look specifically at the ratio of supply to demand for flexible work.
